Stanley tells Edwin it was nice to recieve the photograph and the inscription of him, and the Lincoln lyrics coming out in the their next issue. He is sending Edwin copies of the Decemeber issue which has his poem "The Miracle of Connemera. He wishes the Markhams a joyous Christmas.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901). He became a well-known reader of his own poems and lecturer of idealistic views, but his creative output for remainder of life ...
